ROMMEL RICO PAINTS FOR CHILDREN WITH HIV

Some artists continue to create works of art despite the pandemic brought about by the COVID-19 virus.

This happened to Fil-Am based visual artist Rommel Rico from New York City who returned recently to the country for a fund-raising one-man exhibit of his art works but was put on hold due to the pandemic.

The fundraising event that got shelved was a sequel of his successful one-man exhibit held earlier this year at Pfizer Headquarters lobby, 42nd St., New York.

He was highly acclaimed there by some aficionados and art critics of New York for his brush works with distinct Mediterranean allure and appeal of his diverse subjects: Caucasians or Filipino women from his fabled hometown of Sibuyan Island of Masbate Province.

Rico, however, thought of turning his captivity in the country into a state of creativity so to speak. Keeping in mind the protocols of the pandemic, he emblazoned instead his paint works on high quality T-shirts and transformed them into fashionable and wearable objects of art.

His customized designs were modeled by charitable-minded ladies from the corporate world namely, Carmie De Leon, VP for Sales and Marketing of Healthway Medical; Candice Zialcita, founder of Sauce and Source Business Solutions Studio, Inc. ; Cathy Brillantes-Turvill, CEO of Nurture Wellness Village; and Joy Subalisid, grand winner of Shawn Rhoden International Competition for body building.

The fundraising initiative is for the benefit of the the Duyan Project of the Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation, Inc., one of the country’s leading foundations for children with HIV who are misplaced in care centers for adults with the same affliction.
